Multimedia Work

Below is the culmination of my Multimedia work. Within each of my cooking blogs you will find both the recipe and cost of the recipe in their descriptions. In the description of my journalist videos and song covers is a detailed explanation of the making of each video. The trials and errors I encountered during the making of all my videos have only bettered my process and understanding of visual communication and storytelling.

Singing 'If I ain't got you' to my cat ♥︎

This video is one of my most recent and probably favorites. I think I like it mainly because my cat is in it, but also because I decided to be relaxed and have fun with it. No specific vision, just me doing what I always do in my living room: making music on my couch, just hanging out, me and my cat.

This is my family’s favorite cover of mine and I believe rightfully so, not merely because of the song cover but the design of the video. I took inspiration from the Arctic Monkey’s cornerstone music video, in which Alex Turner waltzes around in front of a plain white wall, wearing a red turtle neck and singing into the mic and the camera. The simplicity of it captivated me and I wanted to produce a similar effect, I hope you find it successful in doing so.

No, I do not have a twin. This was one of the first videos I ever made and one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar. Being one of the first songs I learned, I was unable to sing and play at the same time. The dilemma I faced with this video was trying to figure out a creative way to cover this song with the guitar and vocal accompaniment being showcased together but not recorded together. I could have simply recorded the guitar then my voice and layered them and lip-synced in the video but that felt dishonest, and while the audio is enhanced I wanted it to still be live. Up against a few challenges I decided to try and learn how to create a duplicate of myself. I ended up doing a split screen and did my best to line up the screens, backgrounds, and colors from both sides of the video, however, one thing I didn’t take into account was the number of takes I would end up doing on the vocal part and the fact that the sun sets. If you look closely you can see the difference in day and shadow upon my face. That being said, I did my best during editing to match the colors.

The making of this video was only made possible with the help of my parents. I remember I had a very specific vision of myself singing this song in a smoky lounge-type setting, and for some reason I was hell-bent that vision could only come to life in the bedroom of my parents’ house. Being the kind and supportive people they are they helped me move some furniture out of their room and rearrange it a bit so I could get the “perfect” angle and background. I am also completely blind in this video because I had just run out of my contacts and again, felt strongly that my glasses would (ironically enough) undermine my vision.

This video was one of the first I created at my apartment in College Station. I did this video in one take and decided not to fixate too much on the little things. I told myself to let it be and whatever the outcome of the video was just share it. While I did end up spending a lot of time editing the thumbnail, the experience was a more liberating one than my previous experiences.
